Hi there!
I studied Animation at DLIADT in Dun Laoighaire, Dublin, graduating in 2000. I am an experienced Traditional and Digital Painter with over 15 years experience delivering Art work to the International Animation Industry and have been based in Ireland, France, luxembourg and Thailand as a Lead/key Background Painter, Senior Layout Designer and Art director.
I also studied Multi media and Digital Design, two very important courses in terms of taking control of my own representation/ publicity/ self promotion.
These attributes together with producing art work of note, garnering experience on production and producing work for myself are fundamental to carving a career as a Professional Artist. We all need portfolios.
Having sketched in Pencil, Pen, Paint and Photoshop enroute too, from and living in these places, I decided to concentrate on the Study of light and Atmosphere ‘En Plein Air‘ or, directly from nature as so many of my inspirations have done.
I am motivated by the subjective experience of the Natural World and seek to transcribe the non-verbal experience of nature/internal dialogue as objectively as possible while being fully aware of the impossibility of such a task.
I am motivated by my immediate surroundings and enjoy the proactive pragmatism of Painting En Plein Air and especially the process of interaction with the essential abstraction involved in representational image making.
The Paint is not the Picture, The Picture is not the thing and yet we can feel like it is… if not, somehow, more so like it than its self.
My work focuses on the immediate local and are often titled with the last Absurdist/Descriptive remark or thought encountered.
Forcing myself to be present and ‘Transcribe’ the moment is what its about for me.
I have exhibited work at the Quays Custom House Westport, The linenhall Center Castlebar, The Art center Ballina, The kilkenny Arts Festival, The Blue leaf Gallery Dublin among others and and was represented by The High Street Gallery Galway/Gormelys Fine art and The Art House Achill.
